Overview
Avicenna Research is a platform designed to simplify health and clinical research. It provides tools for gathering data through electronic assessments, like patient-reported outcomes and cognitive tasks, helping researchers conduct studies more efficiently.
Ethica is one of Avicenna’s flagship products. It integrates smartphones and wearables into research, enabling data collection through surveys, behavioral tracking, and real-time reporting. It’s designed to make research more precise and accessible, leveraging technology to improve outcomes.
What is the Problem?
Ethica faced challenges with its sales process and high customer acquisition costs. Without a subscription plan, sales representatives had to manually calculate costs for each project, which made the sales cycle longer and less efficient especially for smaller projects.
To solve this, Ethica planned to introduce a subscription model, allowing clients to purchase licenses directly through the website. This would streamline the process and improve efficiency.

Process
To introduce a subscription-based pricing model, Ethica followed a clear step-by-step approach:
Understanding customer needs to tailor the subscription model.
Designing pricing strategies and feature packages to match user requirements.
Implementing a subscription pricing page and an account management dashboard for a seamless user experience.
The project followed the Scrum framework, with a timeline of 10-12 weeks, divided into one-week sprints. This ensured incremental deliverables and continuous progress.

The process involved close collaboration with the developer and project manager. Since the subscription plan was straightforward, only a few design iterations were needed to maintain consistency with the brand’s design system.
Visual Design
The visual design was guided by insights from competitor analysis and aligned with Avicenna Research’s brand guidelines. We created reusable components to streamline the process and ensure consistency.

This included designing the subscription pricing page and updating the dashboard with a new Account Management section. The added features allowed users to track and manage their subscriptions and billing efficiently.

Key Learning
This project highlighted the importance of multiple design iterations to refine features and enhance the overall user experience.
One key improvement was adding tooltips to the dashboard, making it more user-friendly and intuitive.
Small but impactful features like this demonstrated how thoughtful design can significantly improve usability.
